Supply chain issues brought on by the pandemic are affecting virtually every Industry and with no exception they are affecting the Cannabis industry. Due to the localized nature of cannabis legalization you may assume these companies are more resilient to global supply shortages than other industries but this is only true when talking about raw flower. The Blunt supply chain relies on Hemp grown and pressed in China and shipped to the Philippines where it is rolled into cones that are sent to cannabis legal states in the US to be packed with flower and packaged for distribution. When China shut down in the beginning of the pandemic this sent a wave that backlogged the Philippines and with a natural disaster most likely brought on by global warming further stunting factories the wave got bigger. Then an increase in cannabis consumption in the US brought on by stay at home orders and increased stress caused this wave to break. Many companies are currently looking at one and two-year turnaround times on blunt wraps and other tertiary items that are essential for cannabis product production. If these shortages are exacerbated, we may return to a time where flower is sold in dime bags and we roll our own once again.
